QCWT Executive Board Meeting

September 13, 2010

 

Present: Jerry Sergeant, Art Jackson, Lloyd and Linda Beckman, Mike Moseley, Dave Johnson, Steve and Anne Sinner, Joe Meirhaege, Ron Curtis, Denny Hurd, Randy and Donna Nagle, Teresa Allen, Robin Fraser, Jim Dayton and Roy Skinner.

The August board minutes were approved on a motion from Art, seconded by Lloyd. Lloyd reported $4,018.32 in the regular account and $666.14 in the pop fund. The report was accepted on a motion from Dave, seconded by Mike.

 

ITEMS DISCUSSED:

1. Officers and Board for 2011: Options for elections and the possible addition of new offices, such as membership and supply management were brought up. Anne indicated she will not continue on the board in 2011.

2. Thanks to Roger Viager: Dave made a motion, seconded by Mike, to give Roger a monetary thank you for the wood (and the work) that went into the picnic auction and sale.

3. Pen Turning Classes: Dave VandenBoom has requested $100 to buy items for the pen turning classes. He also suggested a joint QCWT and Cedar Rapids woodturning group Saturday class. Randy moved and Anne seconded a motion to approve both; the motion carried.

4. Gallery Hop (December 3): DeSoto will be opened Monday evenings (approximately 3-8 PM) beginning on Monday, October 18, and continuing through November, to make Gallery Hop sales items. Ron made a motion, seconded by Dave to allocate up to $300 was allocated to buy materials. The motion carried.

5. TV for Library Area: Dave move and Joe seconded a motion to authorize Ron to purchase a TV for the best price he can find. The motion carried.

6. Airport Show: David Murray from Blackhawk College will jury work at 1:30 on Friday, September 24 at DeSoto. The building will be open 3-8 PM on the previous day, Thursday the 23rd, for drop off, or the work can be brought in between 9 and noon on Friday. Pick up is 9-noon on Saturday the 25th. Each artist should price his/her own work, remembering that QC Arts’ percentage is 35%. Some of the selected work will be held back to replace sold pieces.

7. Betty Scarpino Demo: Betty has agreed to demo on Saturday, January 22, and hold a hands-on class on Sunday. Her fee is $700 for each day, plus expenses. Member fees are $25 per person for Saturday and $100 per person for Sunday. Fees for both days will be collected in advance and QCWT will pay Betty.

8. Builders World Demo: Dates are October 29-30. Randy is in charge. This year we will ask for something in exchange for drawing people into their sales area. Food and donuts will be available.
